Princess Anne opens The Brae

Centre manager Mary Sneddon shows the princess around.

Princess Anne was in Dundee today to perform the official opening of the city’s first purpose-built riding school for the disabled (writes Steven Bell).
The princess was invited to The Brae centre, off Arbroath Road to the east of the city, as patron of the Riding for the Disabled Association.

The £500,000 centre provides horses, instructors and physiotherapists for people of all ages with learning or physical disabilities, as well as those in rehabilitation from trauma, strokes and amputations.

Around 200 people attended the event, including riders past and present, volunteers and support workers.

During her visit, the princess watched a lesson, saw the stables and spoke to directors, volunteers and fundraisers.

The princess later went on to visit Castle Huntly open prison, near Longforgan, in her role as Royal Patron of the Butler Trust.
