Dismay over PO three-day delay

The site of the new post office.

Dundee West MSP Joe FitzPatrick today welcomed confirmation of new premises for Lochee Post Office, but said he is disappointed there will be a period of three days (excluding a Sunday) when local people will be without the service (writes Brian Allison).
The current branch, which has continued to operate from the Tesco premises in Methven Street, will close at the end of business on Thursday, April 2, but the new one, to be located at the former Dreams bed store at 163-165 High Street, will not open until Tuesday, April 7.

Mr Fitzpatrick said, “I have been informed that during those three days Post Office Ltd expects constituents to use the two nearest branches at Brantwood Avenue or Craigown Road.

“Clearly this will cause considerable inconvenience, particularly since Mondays are big days for people to collect their pensions.

“I am writing back to them (Post Office Ltd) pointing this out and asking them to consider options for providing the service locally for one day.

“Maybe they could provide a mobile post office service so that local folk can collect their pensions?”

Post Office Ltd’s field change adviser Kenny Lamont said, “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers during the short period of closure.”

He said the improved facilities in the new branch would compensate for any disruption caused in the short term.
