Delivering a continuous Post Office service for folk in Lochee
Lochee residents today received the news they’d been hoping for when it was confirmed there will be no break in Post Office services when Tesco closes its store there next week.
Under the arrangement, new sub-postmaster Scott Campbell will temporarily take over serving Lochee customers on Saturday, February 7, from the existing premises in Tesco’s Stack Leisure Park store.

His new shop, at 163–165 Lochee High Street, will be vacated by Dreams Bed Superstore at the end of February, before being fitted out. The work is expected to be complete by early April.

A statement from the Post Office today confirmed Tesco has agreed to Mr Campbell operating services temporarily from the post office, which is to be sectioned-off inside the main store, which is due to close on February 8.

To allow the changeover, the branch will close at 1pm on February 6, and service will resume under Mr Campbell in the Tesco store at 8.30am the following day.

Kenny Lamont, Field Change Advisor for Post Office Limited, said, “Post Office services are extremely important for the community, and our agreement with Tesco enables us to ensure the continuation of this vital asset to the local area.

“I am delighted the new sub-postmaster will be able to operate from the old store, and I am grateful to Tesco for enabling this service to continue while his new shop is being fitted out.

“We apologise for the short break in service to enable the transfer to take place on February 6, and for any inconvenience to our customers. However, service will resume again on February 7.”

The Post Office also confirmed customers will still have access to the same range of Post Office products and services, including pensions and benefits, cash for certain partner bank customers, bill payment, purchase of postage, financial services, travel products, retail products and car tax.

The new Lochee sub-postmaster will operate from 8.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9am till 4pm on Saturdays.

The announcement has been welcomed by Dundee West MP Jim McGovern, who said, “This is a great result for Lochee.

“I hope a new post office will be the beginning of a regeneration of this important local community. I wish Mr Campbell every success in his new position as sub-postmaster.”

Dreams Bed Superstore is moving to larger premises at Kingsway West retail park, and shop manager Guy Della Corte confirmed today the Lochee shop will close on February 21.

“The lease ends on February 28,” he said.

“Our new premises, next to Currys at Kingsway West, will open on March 5.”
