| Dundee and District Daffodil Growers are keen to see the show continue in some form despite Dundee City Council’s decision to stop backing the event.
The show — which is usually held at Dundee Ice Arena — has suffered from dwindling attendances in recent years and the council’s leisure and communities committee agreed in November to withdraw funding.
Group spokesperson Gordon Robbie told the Tele today the loss of the spring show left a major hole in the city’s horticultural calendar.
He said his group had organised a small show at the Old Craigie allotments last year and hoped to upscale the event this year to fill the void left by the spring event.
A meeting has now been for next Thursday to discuss what could feasibly be achieved in terms of holding a spring bulb flower show this year. Mr Robbie said anyone interested in getting involved with the venture was welcome to attend the 7 pm meeting at Ardler Community Complex in Turnberry Avenue.
He said, “The loss of the Dundee Spring Show has left a big gap in the calendar and quite a few people have said it would be a shame not to have anything.
“But we need the backing of enthusiasts from Dundee and the surrounding area.
“Hopefully the show will be held in April on the Easter weekend.”
