Couple’s silver lining for baby unit

A silver wedding couple have donated £500 to the special care baby unit at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee to say thank you for the care its nurses showed their first grandchild.
John and Angela Melville, from Mid Craigie, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on November 18, but, instead of accepting gifts, they asked friends and family to donate money to the baby unit.

Their 15-month-old granddaughter Tia was born prematurely and Mr Melville said the level of care she was given was “second to none”.

Mr Melville (47), who works at Gillies in Broughty Ferry, said, “We witnessed first hand how important the special care baby unit is to families and hope the money will help them carry on the good work.

“It was a pleasant surprise to see how generous people were with their donations. Everybody thought it was a really good idea.”
