| Wellgate Centre manager John Morton had to cope with the loss of Woolies, one of the centre’s largest tenants and the impending demise of music and DVD store Zavvi, which has gone into administration, but was still able to pronounce himself reasonably happy with the Christmas and New Year periods.
He said, “Footfall figures were about the same as last year.
“If you take into account everything you read in the papers and hear on the news then that would be a surprise, but Dundee often seems to do okay when they’re having difficulties elsewhere and particularly down south.
“Over November and December, three of our main retailers said their figures were up which is good.
“I was in at the weekend and whilst Saturday was busy, Sunday wasn’t and footfall numbers had dropped back — but there’s only so much shopping you can do!
“Overall, I’m happy from the point of view that the tenants we have seem to be doing fairly well.”
John said efforts were continuing to find a new tenant for the Woolworth’s unit, but there was nothing to report yet. |
