| Boss Jocky Scott not only believes his team should have won, he is convinced they could have done so by a handsome margin if they’d taken just some of the opportunities that came their way.
Instead, they went down to a second-half goal from Willie McLaren and then suffered the frustration of seeing midfielder Darren Young sent off just three minutes into a long-awaited debut.
“I’m looking at the video later, but what I already know is that we had a lot of chances and, if I get my hands on the percentage of possession we had, it will be a lot as well,” he said.
“Of the games since I took charge, that was easily the quietest for Rab Douglas — he hardly had a save to make. We created a lot, but we only did half the job and almost every one that was on target was straight at the keeper.
“In the end, it was a harsh result for the players and they have to realise that’s what eventually happens if you are not taking chances and that seems to have been a problem for us all season.”
Turning to Young, while he felt the red card was harsh, Jocky was also critical of the player.
“I can only assume the referee saw it as a goal-scoring opportunity, but, from where I was, we had at least one defender level or even goal-side.
“I felt it was a definite yellow card rather than a red, but Darren is an experienced player and should not have put himself in the situation he did.”
Dundee’s weekend woes were completed by an injury that forced full-back Eric Paton off, though he is likely to be fit to face Partick this weekend.
“He took a couple of sore ones to his thigh and knee, but they are knocks rather than anything more serious and he should be back quickly,” added Jocky.
During the course of this week, Dundee expect to take delivery of tickets for next month’s Scottish Cup trip to Celtic. |
