Phyllis is top neighbour

A Dundee woman, who regularly gives up her own time to help others in her street, was today voted the city’s best neighbour (writes Graeme Strachan).
Mrs Phyllis Patterson, Riverside Place, was selected by Dundee Community Mediation from among several good neighbours put forward for the award.

Mrs Angela Dimitriu, who nominated Mrs Patterson, describes her as a “model neighbour”, who looks after neighbours’ houses, pets and gardens in their absence.

“She is a very kind lady and the perfect neighbour,” said Angela. “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.”

In addition, Phyllis has given Angela’s 91-year-old mother particular care and attention for up two weeks at a time during holiday periods.

If all that was not enough, Phyllis has developed a little garden on a nearby derelict site for the whole street to enjoy.

“That’s the kind of person she is,” added Angela.

Phyllis said, “I can’t believe it. I didn’t expect to be nominated, so this has come as a complete surprise.”

Phyllis was presented with a Christmas hamper, supplied by Smithies Delicatessen of Arbroath.
