Dundee game off
Dundee’s game against Livingston tonight has been postponed.
Livi’s Almondvale pitch failed an inspection this afternoon.
Levein’s squad joy
Dundee United boss Craig Levein today admitted his current squad is the strongest he’s had available during his two-and-a-bit years at the club (writes Graeme Finnan).
With Lee Wilkie, Morgaro Gomis and Willo Flood all expected to shake off knocks, and striker Roy O’Donovan recovered from illness, the Tannadice gaffer has umpteen options at his disposal ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime fixture against Rangers at Tannadice.

And, while their recent run of excellent form — one defeat in 14 games — makes life extremely difficult for fringe men to muscle their way into the starting XI., Craig isn’t about to start complaining over having such a healthy squad to choose from.

Indeed, goals and top performances by Craig Conway and David Robertson, who both returned to the United line-up in the win over Inverness Caley on Saturday, highlighted the hunger and attitude the manager demands at the club

“I don’t really like speaking about it, because we have been quite lucky injury-wise and you tend to jinx yourself with these things,” laughed the United boss.

“But, it’s true, at the moment I definitely have the strongest squad since I came to the club.

“Saying that, all the lads know we have a big squad which is full of good quality players.

“That’s the way it should be and it doesn’t concern me — in fact, it’s a great position to be in.”

Midfielder Prince Buaben had been pencilled in for a runout in the reserve fixture against Kilmarnock this afternoon. However, the game at Rugby Park was postponed after failing a pitch inspection this morning.

Derek’s delight
St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes took “a lot of positives” from the 1-0 home Reserve League Cup win over Dunfermline (writes James Masson).
Andy Jackson netted the only goal, and Derek said, “I was looking for a reaction from guys who have been out of the first team and I got it.”

Kevin James is still out injured due to his back injury, but there is better news of keeper Euan McLean, who has been given the all clear to step up his training.

Meanwhile, Derek remarked he feels right-back Gary Irvine has been showing a good level of consistency.

“Gary has been involved in every top-team game this season and has shown a fine level of performance. He’s good going forward and has worked very hard on the defensive side of his game.”
