Some would have us believe that the Scotland national team would not be under threat if we had a 2012 GB Olympic football team. Their evidence? The word of Fifa.
I am a fully paid-up foot soldier of the Tartan Army.
I have spent thousands travelling the world to watch Scotland.
I have slept at airports, on ferries and in train stations.
I have had pain and sorrow in equal measure.
Team GB 2012 would put future trips under threat.
There is about as much support for a 2012 GB team as there was for the poll tax.
All supporters of a 2012 GB team already concede it would be England in all but name.
If that is the case then why don’t they go and support England as their national side? — Tartan Soldier
Nothing done about lights
I e-mailed Dundee Council using their online contact form three weeks ago regarding street lights which were out of operation in Explorer Road.
I e-mailed Dundee Council using their online contact form three weeks ago regarding street lights which were out of operation in Explorer Road.
I then telephoned them the following week and they advised that they did have the complaint. However, it is now four weeks since the problem started and these lights are still non-operational.
This road is extremely dark — so much so that you cannot even see the edge of the pavement. Also, at the part of the road affected there are two bus stops and it is very unpleasant having to wait for a bus on your own with no street lights and in such dense gloom.
Twice bus drivers have almost gone past waiting customers — not through any fault of theirs I may add.
There are, I think, six street lights out and, as this is a bus route, and at a busy curve in the road, another major concern is that at some stage there may be an accident.
I do hope this problem will soon be fixed — four weeks is rather a long time and especially at this time of year when street lights are even more important. — Very Unhappy And Dark.
Poo bag problem
Poo bags dropped in field.
Could I ask the dog owners who use the fields adjacent to a nursing home in Monifieth to think twice before dumping their dog poo bags in the field?
Could I ask the dog owners who use the fields adjacent to a nursing home in Monifieth to think twice before dumping their dog poo bags in the field?
Why go to the trouble of bagging it and then leaving it in the field?
Who do they think is going to clear up after them?
I recently asked the council for some waste bins to be installed but they have made it clear there is no money available for this area.
Maybe if more dog owners lobbied their councillors they might think again.
In the meantime have some common sense and take the bags home with you. You’re spoiling the area and causing a health problem.
I have attached a picture of the bags — Monifieth Dog Owner.
Pitiful tree
The Lochee Christmas tree
Compared to the trees at Stobswell and Seabraes, the tree at Lochee, Dundee, is pitiful. Did the council run out of lights or is it playing Scrooge? — Mr S. Claus.
Outburst after one-way mix-up
As I turned into Stirling Street, Dundee, in my car on Wednesday, December 3, at 9.25am, I was met with a van being driven on the wrong side of the road.
As I turned into Stirling Street, Dundee, in my car on Wednesday, December 3, at 9.25am, I was met with a van being driven on the wrong side of the road.
The van had to swerve to avoid hitting me.
I signed to the driver that it was a two-way street.
He then tapped the side of his head and told me I was stupid as it was a one-way street.
Hopefully he will read this letter before he causes an accident. — Not So Stupid.
Did Buddon Ness have a foghorn?
I wonder if any Tele readers can help.
I wonder if any Tele readers can help.
I am certain, as a youngster in the 90s, I remember hearing from time to time a foghorn from my house in Monifieth.
I believe there was a foghorn at Buddon Ness lighthouse, but I’m not sure when it went out of service.
If it wasn’t this one, was there another one nearby? Can any readers help? — Steve Pullar.
