Robertson earns praise
Weekend goal-grabber David Robertson has earned praise from Dundee United boss Craig Levein for typifying the attitude he wants from players who have not been in his starting line-up (writes Tom Duthie).
Making his first SPL start since the draw with Celtic in mid-August, the midfielder showed he’s kept himself in good nick by grabbing the third goal in an impressive win at Inverness on Saturday.

That put United back into third place and Robertson’s display was further confirmation of the strong squad now operating at Tannadice.

“I was pleased for David because he has had to wait for his chance to get back in, despite not having done anything wrong when he dropped out,” said Craig.

“At times, while he’s been out, I know he has been disappointed not to get back in, but, in training and reserve games, he has always shown me the right attitude and made me think about using him.

“That’s exactly what you need from your players and it was good to see him get his reward at Inverness.”

Also getting a pat on the back was scorer of the opening goal Jon Daly, and now that his injury problems of the last season and a bit appear to be behind him, his gaffer is looking forward to more goals.

“Jon is benefiting from a run of games in the first team and I thought his all-round performance on Saturday was good.

“He is a player who I try to find space for when he’s fit, because I like the way he goes about his business and what he gives us.”

The big Irishman is out of contract at the end of the season, but those words are a clear indication the only team he is likely to be signing a new deal with is his current employers.

Looking at Saturday’s game as a whole, Craig labelled the win far bigger than Inverness’s abysmal home record — one win this term — suggests.

“Right now, they may be more suited to games away from home, but they are always hard opponents and, historically, it has been a very difficult place for us to go.

“The first half was pretty even, but I was very pleased with the way we stepped up after half-time.”

Tickets for Saturday’s lunchtime date with Rangers at Tannadice are on sale from the club shop.

New date for Livi game
Dundee’s postponed weekend clash with Livingston has been arranged for this Wednesday night (writes Tom Duthie).
Initially, it had looked like that, in accordance with league rules, the game would take place on Wednesday week, but, after agreement between the clubs, it has been brought forward seven days.

That is a situation that suits Dark Blues boss Jocky Scott.

“From the point of view of there not being too big a gap between games it’s good that we’ll be playing Wednesday, he said.

“If it had been next week it would have meant two weeks without playing before we go to Clyde and I think it’s better to be in action Wednesday, Saturday than the other way round.”

One drawback of today’s speedy rearrangement is that striker Mikael Antoine Curier will not be available because he is still on international duty with Guadeloupe.

Meanwhile, Jocky expressed some annoyance that the game was not called off until after 11 am on Saturday.

“In all honesty, the pitch was never going to pass an inspection and that was clear by Friday, but they could not have one until Saturday and, by that time, we had travelled through,” he said.

“By the time the game went off, it was also getting on for the time when fans were starting to travel and that wasn’t good either.”

The weather continues to cause problems and Jocky’s hopes of getting a closed-door game arranged for this midweek look slim.

“We only have Cameron, Gilhaney and Benedictus on the treatment table, but a few others could do with a game. Finding a playable pitch, though, is the problem.”

James back check
St Johnstone central defender Kevin James is in the wars again (writes James Masson).
He didn’t make the side which drew at home to QOS on Saturday due to a back injury and has been sent for a scan.

Jody Morris suffered a knock during the match, but should be fit to face Morton at home this Saturday.
