| Much of the country is now under a blanket of snow, but despite fears there would be a repeat of Tuesday’s whiteout in Dundee they were unfounded.
More rain than snow fell, so although the conditions were cold and miserable, there was little fresh snow on the ground this morning.
Slush
More snow is expected later this afternoon but, again, it is likely to be followed by rain so there is little chance of it lying — although there will be plenty of slush around.
This is good news for drivers who have, so far, managed to cope with the adverse conditions.
Both Tayside Police and Tayside Fire and Rescue have said there were no accidents on the city’s roads this morning.
All of Dundee City Council’s 13 gritters were out last night and again today.
A spokesman for the city council said, “They were out working on priority routes and have now moved to non-priority routes.
“All 20 of our pavement ploughs are continuing to work flat out on priority routes.”
Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing again tonight but it is expected to be windy and wet tomorrow rather than snowy.
ANGUS AND PERTH: NO BIG PROBLEMS
Angus escaped the worst of the threatened overnight snow, but was bracing itself for a winter blast today.
Police reported some road conditions to be difficult.
On the Brechin by-pass, two drivers were involved in minor morning accidents. The crashes led to a fresh plea to motorists to drive according to the conditions and leave plenty time for journeys. A trio of Angus primaries were also closed — Auchterhouse, Lethnot and Tarfside.
The emergency services reported no significant problems caused by the wintry weather in Perth and Kinross this morning.
Bear Scotland’s fleet of gritters had been working on the major roads around the city throughout the night. However, the promised blizzards failed to materialise in Perthshire with just a thin coating of snow around the Fair City. Police were warning the A9 north of Perth was passable with care during the early hours and the snow gates at Glenshee were shut.
No schools, community centres or leisure facilities were affected in Perth, although to the north, pupils at Strone of Cally, Straloch, Kirkmichael and the Royal School of Dunkeld Primaries had a bonus day off.
There were no significant problems reported in Fife. |
