Shop owner Uddhab Bhattarai outside Linlathen Store in Glenconnor Drive.
I respond to the article regarding the shop owner in Glenconnor Drive, Dundee.
The owner of Linlathen Store spoke out about his business being “terrorised” by local teenagers on a daily basis.
Shame on the parents who allow their children to hang about the shop in Glenconnor Drive.
I am a pensioner and I have also been accosted by some of the young people who hang about the shop.
The shop owners are so friendly and helpful and they do not deserve the abuse they get. I have witnessed this abuse and it is cruel.
However, these same people are so cowardly they pull their hoods over their faces and hide. This is not a new problem.
It has been happening for a long time, as anyone who lives in the area will tell you.
It’s depressing that young people are given the freedom to go around causing trouble. I know it is not all young folk, just a few who give them all a bad name.
Any decent parent should know where their child is of an evening. — Decent Parent.
Olympic football is a row over nothing
Let’s face it, Jim McGovern’s “crime” in supporting Team GB football at the Olympics in 2012 is a row about nothing.
FIFA have been on the blower to say it wouldn’t affect Scotland’s international status.
This team would be made up of youngsters and a chance for representatives from the home nations to get to know each other better.
Scotland’s focus should be on bidding for a tournament. As a sweetener, First Minister Salmond said the city of Dundee would get a new football stadium. Since then we have heard nothing. — Armchair Tartan Army.
Saddened
I was saddened by The Watchman’s comments about the future of the Scotland international team.
FIFA has confirmed a British Olympic team wouldn’t affect our status. Also, the team would be made up of under 23s.
A strong British team would be a serious contender for a medal and would create the same kind of excitement Chris Hoy and Team GB did in Beijing.
But, given the obvious gulf in class between the Scottish and English leagues, my concern is that there may be a lack of Scots in the starting 11. — Footie Fan, Dundee.
Little support?
The SNP claims overwhelming public support for its local income tax, yet 45% of respondents to its consultation said they don’t support it.
The figure will rise once the public realises the SNP now intends to include people’s unearned income. — Number Cruncher.
Tabletop sale
We are holding our Tabletop Sale and Big Christmas Raffle at Maxwelltown Information Centre (Carnegie St., off Alexander Street, Dundee) on Sunday, December 14 from 12 to 4pm. We look forward to seeing you there. — Lesley Ingram, Chairperson, Board of Directors.
Never forget sacrifices
London Mayor Boris Johnson has launched a scheme that allows war veterans to travel free on the capital’s public transport.
Such a gesture is long overdue. The Scottish Government should do likewise.
For far too long those unhappy with Government foreign policy have taken out their frustrations on our Armed Forces.
We should never forget the sacrifices made by them. — Support Our Troops.
Lochee demise
I read with interest the comments of a Lochee resident, Colin Milne, in the Tele who believed the community would suffer a “slow death” as a result of the disappearance of Woolworths.
I myself believe that Lochee is already in its death throes and has been for quite some time.
The glory days of the area are long gone, Tesco’s withdrawal from the Stack Leisure Park is imminent, and it is rapidly becoming clear that Woolworths will not be long for closing.
If any of the other main retailers in the High Street have any business sense, they’ll do the same and leave Lochee to these undesirables, who seem to want it so badly. — Concerned.
Dog fouling
I am fed up of having to remove dog mess from my property.
I’ve personally had to remove it from my driveway and path and again, this morning (Sunday), from the kerb opposite our house.
The fact that there is a dog litter bin at the corner of our street seems to make no difference. It makes it harder to understand the lack of consideration for the children who play in our street and the parents who have to clean up their homes after the kids have unwittingly brought your dog’s mess into our homes on their shoes. — Disgusted, Pitempton Road, Dundee.
Taxi time
There are many people across the city in recent times feeling the effects of the new services introduced by local bus services. Locals are either too late or too early for work or other commitments all over the town.
Well I have the answer. Wave down a taxi.
Bus companies all over the country are feeling the effects of the credit crunch and are cutting services, but in Dundee over the past few years the city council, in conjunction with the taxi forum, have improved the standard of taxis. — Old School Driver.
