| Nine-month-old Rebecca Hutchison died on Wednesday evening after reportedly suffering severe breathing difficulties.
Her father, Billy Hutchison, is now calling for answers after claiming Rebecca had seen five doctors in the five days leading up to her death.
Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Mr Hutchison said Rebecca had been to hospital four times and seen a GP once since falling ill last Friday.
She was taken to hospital after suffering breathing difficulties, which were treated with antibiotics.
Rebecca was initially taken from her mother’s home in Newhouse Road on the Letham housing estate to Perth Royal Infirmary last Friday night.
She was transferred to Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital to be seen by a paediatric specialist.
Doctors reportedly said she had a mild infection and sent her home with antibiotics.
On Sunday she was taken to PRI again and her family claim Rebecca was transferred to Ninewells after doctors scanned her chest and spotted a “shadow” on her lung.
Mr Hutchison (40), who is separated from Rebecca’s mother Sandie Thompson (20), claims his daughter was released after being given antibiotics.
He says Ms Thompson took her baby to a GP again on Tuesday and was told Rebecca should finish the course of medication.
Mr Hutchison said, “Rebecca got worse at the start of this week.”
Paramedics were called to the flat in Perth at about 7.30pm on Wednesday. The infant was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary, where she died less than two hours later.
Police sealed off the house as a precautionary measure “to allow a thorough examination”.
A police spokesman said, “This sensitive investigation is at an early stage, and inquiries will continue to establish the cause of death while providing support along with partner agencies to the parents and close family.”
A spokeswoman for NHS Tayside said, “We are looking into the circumstances surrounding this baby’s death.”
Rebecca’s mother is too upset to talk. |
