| The Factory Skatepark at Douglasfield has been awarded a £326,819 grant that will allow the group to expand their community projects over the next five years.
And Hilltown-based mental welfare charity the Hearing Voices Network is to receive £245,115.
Factory operations director Derek Marshall said, “This five-year award from the Big Lottery Fund will allow us to continue to expand the range of youth and community support services which we have developed.
“They are having a real impact on hundreds of lives and bringing real change and support where needed.
“We couldn’t have done any of this without the support of the fund, so we are overjoyed at its decision to support this exciting project.”
Big Lottery Fund Scotland committee member Shirley Young was at the Factory for the funding announcement and the launch of a new consultation over the future of the lottery fund.
She said, “Today we are launching our consultation, Big Thinking, which will give the Scottish public, charities, voluntary groups and our other stakeholder groups the opportunity to help us shape our work between 2009 and 2015.
“By getting involved in our consultation, Dundonians can help to ensure we make the biggest impact with the lottery pound over the next six years.
“Dundee is one of four areas across Scotland where we are launching Big Thinking because of its success in attracting lottery investment.
“I am delighted that on the same day we are announcing funding to two projects in the city.
“This £590,000 investment will provide a much-needed youth and community support service for people young and old alike and will also support people with mental health problems to move on with their lives with greater confidence.”
Hearing Voices’ co-ordinator is currently in Australia for a conference and could not be contacted today for any comment on the award of the funding. |
