Linda Ross accused the city council of taking the cheap option by leaving disruptive pupils in classes, regardless of incidents of serious indiscipline.
I can assure Mrs Ross that they do take all incidents seriously. I can give examples of this as my son has been involved in actions that have been considered as an assault.
On one occasion it was requested that I come and collect my son from the school. When in a meeting with the head teacher I was informed why I had been asked to come in and was told just what my son had done.
In the same meeting it was explained to me that any contact with a person on school premises, be it teacher or pupil, was considered assault and taken “very” seriously, to the point if the teacher wanted to, police could be brought in and my son charged with assault.
On this occasion there was no police involvement but my son was excluded. To say the Education Department do nothing is laughable. — Anon.
Poor turnout but great event
I attended the Celtic folk festival held recently at West Park, Dundee.
Sadly there wasn’t a very good turnout, but the music was incredible.
There was a load of acts and they all made the most of the situation.
It was great to see something different on offer in Dundee.
If the venue had been filled it would easily have been one of the events of the year.
Let’s hope it’s back next year and gets the support of the Dundee public. — S. Duncan.
Finest hour
The co-ordinated approach adopted by Gordon Brown and other world leaders is the only way to deal with the global financial crisis.
Much-needed aid has been made available to small countries like Ireland, Norway and Iceland.
His intervention and the senior role he has taken on the international stage in dealing with this crisis will surely go down as Mr Brown’s finest hour. — Dundee Reader.
Balmossie’s vital role
Balmossie Fire Station plays a vital role in the local community.
There are several residential care homes in the close vicinity of Balmossie.
Ashludie Hospital is the home of many elderly and infirm people.
There have been several serious traffic accidents in close proximity to Balmossie.
It says a lot for the people who live in the vicinity that there is a lower incidence of fires.
They obviously take good care of their property.
Considering the local inhabitants pay more money into the council coffers per head, I think they should be given the equivalent standard of service. — Status Quo at Balmossie.
Bigger signs for speed limits
I agree with the letter from F. Alonso regarding people driving at speeds as slow as 30mph along Riverside Drive, Dundee.
It is extremely annoying to be stuck behind a vehicle doing much less than 50mph when this is the legal speed limit.
I did, however, manage to drive along this road at 50mph on one occasion last year and that was Christmas Day, when there was no traffic on the road.
I think bigger signs are required as people obviously can’t read them. — Jennifer Petrie, Longforgan.
Cheap alcohol
Why are most publicans complaining about cheap alcohol in supermarkets and that it makes their pubs quiet? I think the cause is that pub prices are too dear at well over £2 a pint. No doubt they say it’s justified. — Pub Drinker.
Great show
I congratulate Leigh and Jenny of LJ Dance Factory on the fantastic dance show they put on on Saturday with girls ranging from 3-16 years old.
The teachers and girls worked hard, firstly with a sponsored walk to raise funds, then with all the dancing. Just when I think it can’t get any better, they raise the standards even higher — the dancing and costumes were brilliant. — Wendy Heenan.
