| The company said any changes would come into effect early next year, and is now faced with the prospect of more disgruntled bus users in the city.
Confirmation of the review came after the Tele put forward the concerns of a regular customer about the future of the circular services.
“I’ve been told that the circular buses, specifically 9, 10, 11 or 12, are supposed to be getting taken off in February 2009 which I think is terrible — especially if you work at Dryburgh Industrial Estate and you have to get a bus into the town and then a bus out,” said Clare Brewster.
“Also for old people that live in Broughty Ferry, who would have to get a bus out of the town to get the Bingo in Douglas.
“Access could be restricted to Ninewells Hospital for people who live in the Ferry and prefer to get the one bus to the hospital as they find it easier.”
The latest revelations come after weeks of criticism of the company for changes it has already made to its bus network in the city.
Added Clare, “I think it would be terrible to lose the circular service as it goes through all the different areas, for example Fintry, Whitfield and Claverhouse. A lot of people will be affected by this.”
A spokesperson for Travel Dundee said, “We are currently undertaking a review of all circular bus services (i.e., 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12) and local officers and councillors are aware of this.
“All bus surveys on these routes have now been undertaken.
“Initial findings suggest that passenger numbers have fallen, particularly on services 7 & 8.
“The aim of the review is to see if these routes are fit for purpose and whether they should be amended in any way.
“The review will also embrace the assessment of links from Douglas and Whitfield to the new St Paul’s Academy in Kirkton.
“No decisions have yet been taken, but if any changes are required as a result of the review, they will take place in Spring 2009.” |
