Bennett role may increase
There are growing indications that local business man John Bennett’s influence at Dundee is set to increase (writes Tom Duthie).
Last month, the millionaire former boss of surveyors J. & E. Shepherd, an ex-Dundee United director, pulled the plug on a takeover deal at the 11th hour.

Since then, however, he has invested some £200,000 at Dens Park and he remains in discussions with the club over his exact involvement.

It is understood while nothing definite has been decided, there is a strong chance that will see him take responsibility for day-to-day running of the club, with the obvious exception of team matters.

That would see him take over chief executive Dave MacKinnon’s duties, though, even if Bennett does not move in, he will be leaving by the end of the month at the latest.

Today, MacKinnon would not comment on reports he was quitting, but he has been working on an exit strategy for several months now.

Regardless of the Bennett situation, he will go in a move that could see his duties divided between other senior staff.
