Time to restrict firework sales
Coming up to bonfire night, I am sure most of us enjoy a good display of fireworks that Dundee City Council give us on November 5.

However, with most shops now advertising Christmas already, it’s no surprise that fireworks have been on sale for some time.

Shops sell fireworks well before the event to rack in as much money as possible with little respect for animals and the community.

Every year is getting worse with fireworks also getting louder and more dangerous. I know times are hard for all shops, but let’s stop selling these dangerous items so far ahead of the day. — Guy Fawkes.

Ball Gown Bonanza for charity

The Brittle Bone Society has recently received a generous donation of over 100 gorgeous brand new ball gowns, bridesmaid’s dresses, wedding dresses and children’s formal dresses.

We are holding a Ball Gown Bonanza at our Charity Shop tomorrow from 10am until 4pm.

We are hoping this event will raise the profile of the Brittle Bone Society, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary of supporting people UK wide who are affected by OI (Osteogenesis Imperfecta).

We are one of the few national UK charities based here in Dundee.

Of course, we are also hoping to raise as much money as possible and hope that many people will take the opportunity of coming along to the Brittle Bone Society Charity Shop at 112 City Road, Dundee, to have a look at the beautiful dresses.

If anyone would like any further information our office telephone number is 01382 204446. — Christine Hope, Fundraising Officer, Brittle Bone Society. Chris@brittlebone.org

No plan to back Tesco
As a resident of central Broughty Ferry for over 30 years, I take issue with the assertion that the entire community should welcome a Tesco store.

Having made a decision some years ago never to shop in a Tesco store, I have no intention of changing now.

I also believe the Tesco store will result in casualties among smaller retailers, which may have an adverse effect on the attractiveness, and diversity of our shopping centre. — Ferryman.

South Road
I welcome the road improvements currently taking place on South Road, Dundee.

However I am disappointed that no improvements are to be made at the South Road/Myrekirk Road junction.

This mini-roundabout already operates beyond its capacity and it will only get worse with the opening of Tesco Extra. — T.C., Dundee.

Resigning from BBC only option
There should be no other option for the BBC than to sack, rather than just suspend, Jonathan Ross for his part in the furore with Andrew Sachs.

I am happy Russell Brand has resigned, but even though they have both apologised, it is very easy to say sorry to get off the hook.

I would like to think if they do find employment in the future, they will consider their actions more carefully. — B.C., Monifieth.

Council tax raise will hurt families
I am in total agreement with Ripped Off about the council tax in Dundee.

I also have a three bedroom house that we have invested our time, energy and money into to improve our lot. We are penalised to the tune of £1900 per year.

Does Mr Keenan believe that the Dundee public has unlimited access to bundles of cash?

Gas, electric and fuel bills are going up, mortgages, remortgages are increasingly difficult to find and it seems the council may increase the financial burden for hard working families and force them to the wall. — Ripped Off As Well.

Smallest pub
I read the letter about the smallest pub in Dundee and I think it’s either The Troll in Arklay Street, the Star and Garter in Union Street or the Art Bar in Perth Road. — Blue WKD.

City’s smallest pub
I would say the smallest pub in Dundee is The Bush. — Reader.

Sponsored walk
I have organised a sponsored walk in aid of Easy Walkers’ Stop the Abuse Campaign, designed to raise awareness that animal cruelty is wrong.

The walk will take place on Saturday, November 8, at Kirriemuir Hill.

Anyone who wants to take part is welcome.

Meet at Kirrie Hall at 1.45 pm to start the walk at 2 pm.

I am also looking for sponsors, so anyone wishing to help with a donation can contact me on 07852361209. — Joanna Balneaves, Kirriemuir.

Bracelet found
I found a gold lightweight bracelet in The Body Shop, Dundee, a few weeks ago. — Telephone 01382 527339 with a description. — Finder.
