| The Tele revealed yesterday that police were investigating the claims after the matter was raised by bosses at Lochleven Care Home in the Panmurefield area.
Brian Padaruth, operations manager for the home’s owners, Thistle Healthcare, said, “Since the allegations we have taken the action of stopping staff using any mobile phones whilst on duty.
“That way we can eliminate the problem. We have now banned the use of mobile phones at work.”
Meanwhile, a disciplinary hearing into the matter took place today.
“As soon as we became aware of the situation the staff member was suspended and we started an investigation,” Mr Padaruth said.
“We also informed the Care Commission, the police, and the family of the resident involved.
“The member of staff has been through a disciplinary hearing today but I am not in a position to give any details of that. What I would say is that if the allegations are proved to be correct this is a very serious matter and could also be a criminal offence.”
Mr Padaruth confirmed the hearing centred on allegations the female staff member had used the mobile phone camera to take an “inappropriate” picture of a resident.
But Mr Padaruth would not elaborate on today’s hearing, saying it was a matter between management and the staff member concerned. |
