| His final destination was being closely guarded, but The Tele managed to infiltrate the top-secret operation and trace 00-Samson to Broughty Ferry, where a glamorous motor launch was waiting for him to step aboard.
However, the trail quickly went cold when the teen spy disappeared off the radar in a cloud of spray thrown up by the speedboat’s engines.
Our only chance to track the 14-year-old movements was by placing a call to ‘M’ — Jimmy Michie of Dundee charity Dreamz4U.
The spy supremo could not divulge the purpose of 00-Samson’s mission but confirmed he was expected to catch a flight from Dundee Airport later today.
He is also rumoured to be having a private audience with X-Factor singing stars the MacDonald Bros before making an appearance at a special charity screening of new Bond thriller Quantum of Solace at Cineworld tonight.
‘M’ said Ricky — who has learning difficulties, is partially deaf and has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder — had been chosen to be Bond for the day after being nominated to have his dream come true by a leading children’s charity.
He said, “We had a wee discussion with Barnardos and they told us about some of the kids’ dreams and we picked who would be best for the Bond day. We are hoping to make 94 kids’ dreams come true over the course of the year.”
Mum Carole said Ricky — a Menzieshill High School pupil — was aware it was not going to be a normal day — he had to be fitted for a bespoke tuxedo after all — but said he had little idea of what was in store for him.
She said, “It all happened after Barnardos asked me if Ricky would be excited by being James Bond — I said he would.
“He knows he is getting picked up and going on a plane but he doesn’t know much more. I think it is brilliant and he is really looking forward to it.
“When he was getting the suit made he was asking what was going on and I had to tell him he would see on the day.”
The finale to Ricky’s day as 00-Samson will be when he joins around 400 lucky cinema-goers — including Lord Provost John Letford, the winners of 10 pairs of tickets from an Evening Telegraph competition, and 70 other VIP guests — at tonight’s gala screening of the new Bond movie in Cineworld at Camperdown Leisure Park.
n A top secret despatch by the Tele’s own special agent, film critic Phil Weir, containing a review of Quantum of Solace, has been smuggled into our office and will be revealed in our pages tomorrow. |
