Daly grind rules out Jon
Dundee United will be without in-form striker Jon Daly for the league trips to Falkirk and Rangers in the next few days (writes Tom Duthie).
Despite a flurry of new arrivals over the summer, the Irishman has arguably been the Tangerines’ top frontman so far this term, but missed Tuesday’s Co-Op Cup win over Dunfermline.

That was because of a groin strain he suffered during a routine training session on Monday and, today, boss Craig Levein confirmed his target man was still struggling.

“Jon has no chance for Saturday and I am not expecting him back for Rangers on Tuesday either. I don’t think he’ll miss any more than those two, but it is a bit of a blow.”

That said, overall, Craig is relieved he will have most of his players fit going into a spell of five games in a fortnight.

“Willo Flood and Sean Dillon took thigh knocks against Dunfermline, while Roy O’Donovan got a smack in the face and studs in his thigh, but they will all be OK for Saturday.

“Yesterday, Garry Kenneth got 90 minutes in the reserves without his knee bothering him and Mihael Kovacevic played with his new face mask. Lee Wilkie also came through on Tuesday without any reaction to his calf strain, so, apart from Jon, we should have pretty much everyone available.”

Adding to the choices are Danny Grainger, Prince Buaben and Danny Swanson, who all got 90 minutes of the second string draw at Rangers.
