| In the lunchtime attack on the university campus, the culprit — a man in his mid 30s — attacked his victim within the common close of a block of flats off Old Hawkhill.
The man grabbed and pushed the 18-year-old as she was walking towards Old Hawkhill at around 12.40 pm yesterday afternoon.
She may have been saved from a more serious attack because another student leaving the flats disturbed the attacker and he fled.
Police today appealed for witnesses to come forward and issued a description of the man they are hunting.
His victim, who believes she saw her attacker standing outside Belmont Halls on the university campus just minutes before the assault, was not physically injured in the incident.
However, she is said to have been left badly shaken and upset.
A university spokesman said, “This is an alarming incident for the student involved and we would urge any fellow students or staff who may have witnessed it to contact the police immediately.
“A support service will be offered to the student involved.”
The man — who possibly spoke with a west coast or Glaswegian accent — is described as between 5 ft 6 and 5 ft 11.
He is of medium build with short or shaved brown hair and facial stubble.
He was wearing a green T-shirt underneath a navy blue, waist-length Rockport jacket, with a white collar, and a pair of blue jeans.
A spokesman from Tayside Police said the attack had been particularly upsetting for the young student.
“Although the female victim was not physically injured and did not require hospital treatment, she was understandably left extremely upset and badly shaken,” said a force spokesman.
Police are appealing for anyone with any information about the attack to contact them on 0845 600 5705. |
