| An inept opening 45 minutes saw the Dark Blues trail 2-0 at the interval and, although substitute Mickael Antoine-Curier pulled one back, it wasn’t enough to take anything from the game or satisfy an increasingly frustrated home support, who made their feelings known at the end.
The manager can understand their view and made his own thoughts crystal clear to the players in the dressing-room after the game.
He said, “We knew Ross County were a hard-working side and had been going well, and we warned the players they would have to compete for 90 minutes, but you can’t legislate for people not picking up at corners.
“We took off Bryan Deasley and Darren Williams at half-time, but, in all honesty, it could have been quite a few others after the way we played in that first half.
“Getting the goal back gave us a chance, but we left ourselves with too much to do and you simply can’t do that in this league.”
Dundee’s woe was compounded by the injury to Paul McHale, who had to go off with what looked like a recurrence of his recent calf problem. He’ll return to a treatment room filled to capacity with a group of senior pros Dundee could badly do with on the pitch.
“It looks like Paul has aggravated an old injury, but we’ll have to wait to see just what the extent of the damage is.
“David Cowan is still being bothered by sciatica and it’s a credit to him he was willing to play against Ross County. Hopefully, he’ll be back this week. Big Gary (MacKenzie) is still a few weeks off a return with his broken toe, while we are still without Jim Lauclan, Darren Young, Colin Cameron and Colin McMenamin.
“These are all guys, who, if fit, you would expect to be playing week in week out. But we have to try to find a win from somewhere and we have a tough game coming up on Saturday against Morton at Cappielow, which is never an easy place to go.
“We have to start picking up points and, hopefully, when we get a few of the injured players back, we can put a run together.” |
