Irvin’s special delivery

A Dundee midwife has delivered a very special baby — her own nephew (writes Stefan Morkis).
Sandra Mulherron (51) works at Ninewells Hospital and, when her sister-in-law Lisa Cook (27) went into labour, it was she who helped deliver Lisa’s son.

Baby Irvin was born on September 29 weighing 10 pounds and six ounces after a 15-hour labour.

“My sister-in-law was with me all through the labour,” said Lisa.

“She had finished her 12-hour shift and still managed to stay on for another two hours until Irvin was born.”

Lisa and her husband Fraser met eight years ago and married in 2006.

Irvin is their first child together.

“He was quite big and wouldn’t come out,” said Lisa. “I eventually had to have a C-section, but he’s doing absolutely fine.”
