| Under the new scheme, members of the Salvation Army will work alongside Tayside Fire and Rescue personnel to provide emergency shelter and catering to accident victims.
The collaboration between the two organisations, who gathered at the Blackness Road station in Dundee today, is the culmination of more than a year’s planning and preparation.
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Tayside Fire and Rescue,” said Major Martin Hill, divisional commander of the Salvation Army North Scotland. “To play a small part in supporting firefighters in difficult situations is a real privilege.
“The Army’s mission includes meeting practical needs and serving those who serve others. We provide more than a warm cup of tea — we can get alongside and provide a listening ear.”
Station manager Andy Hermiston said opportunities for TFR to work with external partners such as The Salvation Army were identified at a recent efficiency review.
He said the new scheme would radically change the way TFR mobilise and supply catering to crews at protracted incidents. |
