Lisa Nicoll performs her one-woman play, “Maybe This Time I’ll Dance” at the Kirkton Community Centre.

A drama highlighting the devastating effects of alcohol abuse was staged today in Dundee as part of Alcohol Awareness Week (writes Sean Hamilton).
Kirkton Community Centre was the setting for the performance of Lisa Nicoll’s “Maybe This Time I’ll Dance”, which follows one woman’s struggle to give up drink following her descent into alcoholism.

The play was written in partnership with the Angus Drug and Alcohol Action Team, which also worked with Ms Nicoll on a project designed to raise awareness of alcohol issues earlier this year.

Chairwoman of the Tayside Alcohol Awareness Co-ordinating Group Eileen McArthur said, “The story is a moving one where Scarlet (the lead character) reflects on her growing up and her previous encounters with alcohol, and how Scarlet has grown to accept her life can be possible without alcohol.

“It is a powerful story about positive, personal change.”
