‘Heinous’ theft puts ambulance out of action
An ambulance on a mercy mission in Dundee has been forced off the road after being targeted by a callous thief (writes Graham Huband).
The crew was answering an emergency call in Fintryside when the thief stole a navigational display screen.

The unit, which directs crews to the location of 999 calls, was ripped out. It is useless to anyone else as it is compatible only with ambulance service data systems.

The ambulance is now out of service.

The vehicle will be examined by police for any forensic evidence and will return to the frontline only after a new screen has been installed.

An Ambulance Service spokesperson said, “The crew was attending at an address in Fintryside around 9pm last night and they were there for a couple of hours.

“When they came out they discovered the display screen — which displays locations and maps — had been taken.

“The crew was able to switch to a back-up vehicle and there was no loss of service.

“It is disappointing that people will target ambulances when our crews are saving lives.”

Tayside Police today appealed for witnesses to the “heinous” theft, who should call them on 0845 600 5705 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555111.
