| Joyce Peters, whose daughter is a third-year pupil at Harris Academy, successfully campaigned to have a direct service between the school and her Barns of Claverhouse home re-instated after Travel Dundee decided to omit the stop from the 36b route earlier this year.
The lack of a direct service meant her daughter faced an hour-long journey involving two buses twice each day.
After several consultations with the company, a different service — the 22b — was re-routed to take in Barns of Claverhouse and restore the direct route.
However, only six weeks after the new service was begun there are concerns the level of provision it requires during the busy school periods is not being met.
Mrs Peters said, “Although the service is running on time there’s an issue with there’s not enough room for everyone using it.
“In the mornings, by the time the bus arrives at the school there’s standing room only. And at night they’ve only been sending a single decker, meaning half the kids are not getting on the bus.
“I phoned Travel Dundee — who’ve been very helpful throughout — after it happened the first time and was told they’d sent a single decker as there’d been a problem with the double decker.
“It’s happening repeatedly though, and it’s at the stage where I’m having to pick my daughter up as I want her to get home before half-past five.”
And Mrs Peters is concerned that if the problem is not resolved it may pose a danger to the safety of children who use the route as the nights draw in.
“If my daughter doesn’t get onto the 22b, the alternative is a bus into town followed by a bus to either Fintry or Kirkton, both of which involve a fair walk along an unlit walkway to Barns of Claverhouse,” she said.
“In the world we live in, that’s not something I’m particularly happy about.”
Mrs Peters will meet with Travel Dundee representatives at the end of the month. |
