| Several concerned readers have contacted the Tele expressing their concern at the feared changes.
It’s understood Travel Dundee will revise several services on November 2.
Bob Wallace, secretary of the Whitfield Community Safety Panel, said, “We have been getting reports and rumours that the 15 and 17 bus routes to and from Whitfield are to be revised on November 2, and it has even been noted that if a passenger goes beyond a certain stop they will have to pay a double fare.
“There is already much concern about the number 15 bus now being re-routed down Dura Street, as this has the effect that many elderly people have a considerable walk to get to doctors’ surgeries in Albert Street.”
Readers have also contacted the Tele over concerns the number 15 service will no longer go through Happyhillock, and that service numbers 28 and 29 to Charleston will be reduced to just one bus at night. It is also feared services 36, 27 and 55 will be withdrawn completely.
There have been recent concerns about the lack of bus services in the Menzieshill area because of the rerouting of services away from Ninewells Hospital.
Councillor Alan Ross arranged a meeting between residents and National Express, the parent company of Travel Dundee.
Travel Dundee also upset football fans by scrapping its private hire service — used by many supporters’ clubs — just days before the start of the new season.
The company posted a 14% pre-tax rise in profits to £90 million for the first six months of this year.
The Tele has asked Travel Dundee for comment, but had received none at the time of going to press. |
