Stack reality: the plan that never happened
Plans for a major redevelopment of The Stack Leisure Park at Lochee were approved by Dundee councillors more than two years ago, but the upgrading has failed to materialise.
Darlington-based developers Landteam Northern (Dundee) Ltd were given the go-ahead for a major revamp of the area in August 2006, but work has yet to begin.

The plan that was given the green light involved the demolition of the former Odeon cinema building, the Megabowl and the former Fatty Arbuckles restaurant and the erection of three new non-food stores, a new leisure unit and the creation of a restaurant.

At the time of the application being approved, the developers envisaged the Tesco store being retained, along with the vacant former Venue nightclub building and the former Buzz and Busters restaurants.

The redevelopment would also see new car parking created at the site, a taxi rank added and environmental improvements being made to Methven Street, the road which links The Stack with Lochee High Street.

A spokesperson for Dundee City Council confirmed today that the plan remained in force and the developers had until August 2011 to begin work.

The Tele contacted Landteam Northern today, but no one was available for comment at the time of going to press.
