Dundee reject frumpy claims
Those in the know today rejected claims Dundee is Scotland’s worst-dressed city (writes Kirsten Johnson).
Dundee women were voted the least fashion- conscious north of the border in a recent online poll. The city came fourth in the top ten worst-dressed places in the UK after Sheffield, Plymouth and Middlesbrough.

But today the poll was branded untrue and unfair. A spokesman for Dundee College, which offers popular courses in both fashion retail, called the survey “a bit of nonsense”.

“Dundee College closes each year with a fashion show that attracts and influences an audience of hundreds, while our retail fashion students model garments from some of the hottest retailers in the country, all of whom have chosen to have outlets in Dundee.

“It is always disappointing to hear disparaging remarks about Dundee, especially by people who have probably never visited.”

The brand manager of fashion store Topshop in Dundee agreed.

“Dundee is a city with a great mix and variety of fashion. People aren’t afraid to mix different styles and colours and can look really great,” she said.

A spokeswoman for Zara said, “It’s not that the people in Dundee are less fashion conscious, there are just far fewer high fashion stores than say in Edinburgh or Glasgow.”
