| Locals in the area say they have been repeatedly interviewed by officers since the badly burned body was found by greenkeepers on the 11th tee of the Buddon Course.
The house at the centre the investigation is Pentland Cottage, in Barry’s Main Street, which is believed to be owned by local man Bob Higgins (51), but is now up for sale.
Police continued to remain tight-lipped about the identity of the male, saying further information would be released once a post mortem was carried out. This took place today.
A Tayside Police spokesman said, “We will not confirm the identity of anyone until they have been formally identified.”
It is strongly believed that the death, which police say is being treated as “suspicious”, was the result of suicide.
The officer heading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Graham McMillan of Tayside Police said today they were keeping an “open mind” while attempting to probe the last movements of the man. Neighbours said today they had been interviewed by police, and one was even asked if he would identify the body by looking at photographs.
Police later contacted him to say other means would be used to identify the man.
One neighbour said, “Bob keeps himself to himself. We used to see him out with his dogs. He is a quiet, pleasant man.
“We’re all still hoping it wasn’t him. It will affect people in Barry because we all know each other.”
Mr Higgins worked in the medical profession but it is thought he lost his job around three months ago. It’s also understood he also lost one of his pets recently.
Neighbours say he lives alone with his dogs and he vacated the property in April.
A neighbour said he understood Mr Higgins’s mother may still be alive, but was unsure where she might be living. Mr Higgins is thought to have been living in the Letham area recently.
He is known by many locals who visit the Craw’s Nest, where he often plays pool, and also the Golf Inn.
The Buddon Course remained closed today but the Burnside and Championship courses were open. |
