| By the beginning of this week, sales for the 2008/2009 campaign had reached the 4800 mark — a increase of 300, or 7%, over this time last year.
Roughly speaking, total sales also means a boost to early season income of around £1.2 million.
Welcome as that is to the Tangerines, for communications director Derek Robertson just the fact extra fans wanted to book their seats for the entire campaign was what was most encouraging.
“An increase of any description at a time when feedback I’m getting from other clubs is that sales have been dropping is welcome and a 7% rise is excellent,” he said.
“It has been well documented in the news recently that things like rising electricity and petrol prices mean that people have plenty other things they need to spend their money on, so we are very pleased with sales.”
Those sentiments were echoed by team boss Craig Levein, who said, “It’s encouraging to see sales are up, particularly as we haven’t started the season by picking up as many points as we would have liked.
“But I think the fans know there is lots more to come from us and people can see that when they come to Tannadice, they get value for money.”
Meanwhile, the manager was happy with yesterday’s reserve outing which saw United’s second string draw 1-1 with Kilmanock at Station Park, Forfar.
“In general, the lads played pretty well. Danny Swanson and Keith Watson came through the game OK, while it was good to see David Goodwillie getting another goal.
“They are all in my thoughts for Saturday’s game at Hibs.”
Defender Garry Kenneth was due back at Tannadice today following his stint with the Scotland Under-21 side.
The young Scots went down 1-0 to Denmark in Aalborg last night and missed out on the chance of qualifying for the European Championships (see Page 30).
DUNDEE wide man Freddie Daquin is expected to be OK for Saturday’s home game against Dunfermline after missing out on training yesterday due to a leg strain. |
