CONWAY PENS NEW DEAL
His time at Tannadice has been blighted by the curse of the broken metatrasal, but Dundee United today demonstrated their faith in Craig Conway by handing him a new contract (writes Tom Duthie).
Since joining from Ayr in 2006, he’s twice had lengthy spells out stemming from broken bones in his feet. That has limited him to just under 50 top team appearances.

Performances in those games and the progress he’s made despite his injuries mean there was never any doubt he would be offered the chance to extend his Tannadice stay beyond the end of his original deal next summer.

Today saw him do that when he penned a deal until May 2011 — by which time manager Craig Levein expects him to have emerged as a top performer in the SPL.

“Craig has been very unlucky with injury, but when he has played he has shown he has a lot to offer at this level,” he said.

Conway said, “I’m delighted at the faith shown in me by the manager and to have my immediate future secured.”

Meanwhile, Craig is hoping his international players return unscathed.

Garry Kenneth, Warren Feeney and Lukasz Zaluska have been on international duty.

Kenneth is in U/21 Euro action in Demark tomorrow, Feeney is in the Northern Ireland squad which faces a clash with the Czech Republic in Belfast on Wednesday and Poland’s Zaluska is in San Marino for a midweek date.

“As far as I’m aware, they are all still fit and, hopefully, that will be the case after the games this week,” said Craig.

ALEX’S LUXURY
Dundee boss Alex Rae enjoyed the luxury of having as many of his squad in full training as he’s had since the opening week of pre-season. Only Darren Young was unable to join in (writes Tom Duthie).
However, Jim Lauchlan will need a couple of weeks before he’s ready for first-team action, but, despite the manager’s caution about Colin Cameron, a week’s work could put him in contention when Dunfermline visit.

After coming through closed-door friendlies against Hibs and Albion Rovers, Craig McKeown is pushing to face the Pars.
