| Alexander Ramsay, who has two artificial knees and arthritis in his hips, was told by Dundee City Council almost a year ago that he did not qualify for funding for a scooter ramp.
He was advised to turn to charity and has since received overwhelming support from various sources, helping him come up with £9000 — the estimated cost of the project.
Speaking to the Tele from his Kirkton home, Mr Ramsay said he was very relieved and very grateful that work has now started.
He said, “The boys arrived just after 8 this morning and I feel really relieved.
“They say they will be doing work next week and the week after but then it should be finished.”
Businesses and charities pledged thousands of pounds to help meet the cost and C. Babington Plant Hire and Ground Works pledged their services for free to build it.
Mr Ramsay said he was overwhelmed with the support he had received.
He continued, “It got to the stage where I thought it was never going to happen, I’m just so grateful to everybody.
“I was going to buy my own scooter but Mr and Mrs Kennedy from Liff even got in touch with me and told them they had one I could use.
“This is going to make my life easier. I’ll have a bit of freedom back.” |
