Fringe men get chance to shine
A string of Dundee fringe players saw action this afternoon and the message ringing in their ears from boss Alex Rae was — places are up for grabs (writes Tom Duthie).
Ludovic Roy, Bob Davidson, Bryan Deasley and weekend comeback man Craig McKeown were the notable names on the team sheet as the Dark Blues headed out of town to face Premier League opposition.

Realistically, club captain Roy will find it difficult to dislodge in-form goalkeeper Rab Douglas from the top team, but the other three are all candidates to step into the starting line-up when Dunfermline come to Dens Park on Saturday week.

And their manager was keen to stress that was not just because the last two games have resulted in defeats to Partick Thistle and Queen of the South.

“Irrespective of how results have been, if players are working hard and pushing themselves forward, I will always consider putting them in the team,” said Alex.

“The boys know that, so I’ve been looking for good signs in these games.”

As well as this afternoon’s run out, another closed-door game has been arranged for Thursday.
