| While others were scratching around trying to finalise last-minute deals before the transfer window closed at midnight, Craig was relaxed in the knowledge he’d already secured everyone he wanted.
That meant, that as the clock ticked toward 12 last night, it was all quiet at Tannadice and no business was done — in or out.
“I could be happier with our points tally, but, when it comes to the squad, I am satisfied with the players I have, so there was no need to be doing anything yesterday,” said Craig.
“I was keen to get the players I wanted as early as possible and I managed that, though one or two are still catching up on fitness because they arrived a bit later than the others.”
There was some expectation that a late move could have come in to prise Darren Dods away from Tannadice — Hibs, Inverness, Motherwell and St Johnstone were all in the market for central defenders — but Craig was pleased to report he had no offers to deal with.
“I have three out-and-out centre halves in Darren, Garry Kenneth and Lee Wilkie, and I am happy with them all. I have the squad I want and it’s good to be working with them.”
Although the window is now shut, emergency loans mean there could still be movement in the coming weeks and highly-rated teenager Keith Watson remains a candidate to be farmed out.
After over a year out with knee problems, he’s been looking strong in training and, once he gets a few games under his belt, could be sent out for some first-team experience.
Meanwhile, midfielder Danny Swanson is unlikely to train for the next few days, but is expected to recover from a shoulder problem in time for the visit to Hibs on Saturday week. |
