| Daredevil teenagers took advantage of the high seasonal tide at Arbroath at the weekend to indulge in what they see as a fun sport — and others regard as an accident waiting to happen.
Crowds gathered at the top of Arbroath cliffs to watch the apparently fearless local teenagers diving, jumping and back flipping from various heights into the sea.
But as well as overcoming any fear of heights, the jumpers are defying safety messages from concerned local authorities.
The Coastguard strongly advise against the dangerous sport, known as “tombstoning”, a view shared by the local RNLI. A spokesperson said, “It might seem like fun but it’s simply an accident waiting to happen. It’s only a matter of time before someone is hurt or killed.” |
