Kingoodie: no further appeal
People power may be no match for the might of the Scottish Government, but that will not stop enraged Carse of Gowrie residents from having their say (writes Mark Mackay).
It was revealed earlier this week that the Scottish Government had overruled Perth and Kinross Council’s refusal of plans for a futuristic home on Kingoodie Pier.

There was widespread opposition to plans to replace the old boating sheds at the end of the pier with a modern steel and glass home.

The decision to allow construction has left many locals angry and wondering where they can turn for help.

A Perth and Kinross Council spokesman today confirmed there is no planning appeal left open to locals or the local authority.

“The only way this could be challenged by the local community is through a legal challenge — if they took it to the High Court,” he said.

It’s understood the cost of bringing the case to the Court of Session would be prohibitive.

The Evening Telegraph has been bombarded with calls from residents and visitors to the area who are disgusted by the decision.

One local woman said, “It is unbelievable they have given planning permission. I do not know anyone who is in agreement.”

Another resident said, “I am so incensed, I simply cannot believe it. The proposed house is so out of character with the environment. It will spoil the beauty of the Tay.”

Mary McCormack said, “I live in Broughty Ferry but I visit Kingoodie Pier regularly and I really think this would spoil the area. People who live there must be devastated.”

Alison Sellars from Dundee commented, “I am not against progress and I’m certainly not against anyone who wants to do the whole eco-thing.

“However, this is a beautiful area and I can see why local people would be really upset.”
