| Alasdair Chalmers, managing director of DP&L Group, was left stuck on the wrong side of the Atlantic with 11 of his friends from Panmure Golf Club following the unexpected demise of the airline.
The group have been left thousands of pounds out of pocket because of the situation, but Alasdair’s industry connections have ensured the party are now on their way home.
Staff at DP&L in Dundee have managed to book the group on new flights which will now see them travel to New York before heading to the UK.
The golfing buddies would have arrived back in Glasgow at 8.40am today had Zoom been operating but they are now expected home tomorrow night.
The Tele contacted DP&L today but no-one was available to comment directly on the group’s unexpected layover Stateside. Mr Chalmers was not contactable.
A spokesperson for Panmure Golf Club at Barry today confirmed the golfers were from the club and had been on a tour based in the Canadian city of Montreal.
However, the holiday had been organised independently by the golfers and was not an official club trip.
The spokesperson said the group had flown out of Scotland on Zoom on August 21 and were due to return to Glasgow today.
During their stay in Montreal, the group are understood to have played matches against Mount Bruno, Beaconsfield, Royal Montreal and Kanawaki golf clubs.
Meanwhile, Dundee Football Club were also counting the cost of Zoom’s demise today after booking a flight from Canada to Scotland for Michelle Horne, girlfriend of Canadian international midfielder Chris Pozniak.
The club booked the £350 flight just hours before the company collapsed and have so far been unable to get back their cash. |
