A total of 230 women from Dundee and the North East will be donning lipstick and trainers this weekend as they set out on the first ever Scottish Midnight Walk for Sue Ryder Care.
Tomorrow’s event, which involves participants completing a gruelling 10-mile trek, will begin and end at the car park at the Fife end of the Tay Road Bridge.

Walkers will then head across the bridge to Dundee before heading along Riverside to the half-way point at the Marmalade Pot restaurant.

There the walkers will enjoy a quick refreshment stop before the return leg.

The event begins at midnight but it is expected some of the walkers won’t complete the course until sunrise.

Among those taking part is a 20-strong group from W L Gore and Associates (UK) Ltd of Dundee Technology Park. Participants from the company – who range in age from 16 to 57 – have been in training under the watchful eye of colleague Eileen Martin.

Eileen said, “The girls have been building up their miles by walking in their lunch break or in the evening, so they are prepared.”

Helen Hamilton, area fundraising manager for Sue Ryder Care, said she was delighted so many people had agreed to take part and was confident of reaching their £10,000 target. Sue Ryder Care helps people across the country with conditions such as Huntingdon’s Disease, multiple sclerosis, brain injury and cancer.

Helen said, “It is fantastic the WL Gore girls have jumped so enthusiastically to the challenge.”
