It is a shame that our local radio station, which has served us well for over 25 years now, is being taken away from us and replaced with a Scottish networked service from 7pm each night on Tay FM.
Local services have been a part of our lives for so long and will be sadly missed by lots of listeners.
Are Bauer (the owners of Tay) going to do the same to Radio Tay AM in the future?
I say keep our local radio local — meaning in Tay Territory and not Clydebank.
I really hope staff who are having to leave Tay FM can find jobs elsewhere doing what they are good at — presenting good quality local radio. — R. K.
Great night
Dundee Schools Music Theatre put on another amazing performance in Jesus Christ Superstar last week.
My husband and I were amazed at such a professional performance, which brought me to tears.
Well done to everyone involved in making the show such a wonderful success. — Mr and Mrs Miller.
Sickened by rabbit death
I find it disgusting how anyone could be so vicious as to skin a rabbit and then return it back to the owners’ home.
The story of how a rabbit was brutally killed in Kirkton, Dundee, was truly horrific.
What kind of people are we living with in society today?
Easy Walkers are so upset and angry by this incident that we have decided to do two sponsored walks for local animal charities.
The walk will be carried out by myself, doing it solo, on Friday, August 29, in Kirriemuir and the following Friday in Dundee.
I’m calling on Tele readers to help me help animal charities. Sponsor forms are available by calling me on 01575 573813 or 07518559707. — Daryl Beech, Easy Walkers.
Dangerous paving
I came out of Lidl in Dura Street, Dundee, and went towards the bus stop.
On the pavement there is some fancy stonework.
As it was raining, I slipped and badly scraped my knee.
A man at the bus stop helped me up and said that about a month or so ago he fell on the stones as well and split his head. Whose idea was it to put this stonework there?
I think they are a danger to the public. — Sore Knee.
Rampant foliage
I’ve read a few complaints recently about overgrown grass or bushes in various parts of Dundee.
Well, here’s another one for the clippers to see to.
At the bottom of Dudhope Gardens steps, there’s now hardly any room to get along the path which used to be about six feet wide.
If it’s been raining, either your shoes get soaked from having to walk on the grass, or your clothes get soaked from brushing against the rampant undergrowth.
The grass was cut not all that long ago, but the weeds on the other side of the path were left untouched. — Law Resident.
Lessons from Euro taxi consultation
Following the consultation on improving the accessibility to taxis, I hope Dundee City Council come to the same conclusion as a study on the same thing by the European Conference of Ministers of Transport, a taskforce set up to improve access to taxis.
They found that given there are in excess of 45 million disabled people across Europe, including four million wheelchair users, it was clearly important that taxi accessibility should be improved.
They found there should be two types of taxi; one which allows a passenger to travel in his or her wheelchair, with type two being saloons and estate vehicles with minor modifications.
They noted that 90% of disabled people do not use wheelchairs and type two would make it easier and more comfortable for them to travel. They also said the elderly and infirm would travel much easier in type two vehicles.
This is a very full study and the council could have saved a lot of time and money if it had taken guidance from this study. — A. W.
Tattooed lady of Lochee
I wonder if anyone can offer any information regarding the Tattooed Lady of Lochee.
She lived there in about the 18th or 19th century although I cannot find any evidence of her in the census returns or births, marriages and deaths.
I have heard various stories that suggest she was anything from a whelk-picker to a barmaid.
Her name, I am led to believe, was Valari Gad Clinton (I’m not sure about the spelling) which suggests she may have been of foreign extraction and married to an Irish immigrant.
The story goes on to say she dressed completely in black and smoked a long Meerschaum clay pipe.
If anyone could provide any information to substantiate this tale, I would be very grateful. — Lochee Worthy.
Great festival
I travelled up to Kirriemuir recently for the Live In The Den and what a great music event it was.
It was well organised and the local bands were impressive. Big Big Sound, The Trade and Sonnet65 had excellent sets and were professional, as we have now come to expect. Some of the others were excellent as well including one four piece from the local high school who were easily the youngest on the bill. They didn’t say who they were but their fast paced set was impressive, too.
It was a fine event, which showcased what great musical talent, there is in the Dundee and Angus area. — Dan McBride, Dundee.
Ample parking space
The reason park and ride schemes work in other cities is the fact they do not have ample parking space in their city centres like Dundee.
We have plenty car parks all around the edge of the city centre, no more than a 10 minute walk from the city centre. We also have two large car parks in the shopping centres and one at Debenhams.
We don’t need park and ride. — Proud Of Our Car Parking.
Construction
I reply to Peter Keith. I hope Dundee doesn’t become free of construction work as it brings jobs and prosperity. I like the centre of Bonnie Dundee. — Stobie.

Billy Hanlon will be home from Australia and we would welcome relatives, friends, old neighbours, school mates and former workers to join us at Caird Park Golf Club on September 13 at 7.30 pm to celebrate his 60th birthday. Phone Carol on 01382 502245 or Maryon 01382 872235. — Carol Duncan, Finella Gardens, Dundee.

I am holding a prize bingo night tonight in Lennons Bar, Dundee, in aid of the 22nd Fintry Cub Group to help fund their trip to Poland in 2009. Eyes down at 7.30 pm. — Sarah Edwards.
