Kirkcaldy death: police quiz husband

Police in Fife have confirmed they are treating the death of a woman in Kirkcaldy last night as suspicious — and it is believed her husband Samuel is being questioned, though no charges have yet been made (writes Craig Smith).
The body of the 66-year-old woman, named locally as Isabella Hooper, was discovered in a house in Overton Mains at around 9.30pm and police immediately cordoned off the area.

The exact cause of death will not be known until a post-mortem is carried out, although a spokesperson for Fife Police said detectives are refusing to rule anything out at this stage.

A spokesperson for Fife Police confirmed, “Inquiries are at an early stage, and the woman’s identity will not be released until relatives have been informed.”

Neighbours in the Overton Mains area were stunned to find police swarming all over the community this morning, with much of the surrounding area taped off.

Debbie Parkinson, who lives with her husband John in a house opposite the Hoopers, said, “It’s such a shock when it’s right on your doorstep, but we don’t know what’s happened — it’s terrible.”

Neighbours also claimed police have been called to the Hoopers’ house on several occasions in recent months following disturbances between the couple.
