Eight generous Dundonians were making their final preparations today before jetting off to Romania for a once-in-a-lifetime charity trip (writes David Clegg).
Heather Dick-Reid and seven friends are set to travel to the Deva area of the eastern European country tomorrow to volunteer at the Casa Harului — a Christian camp for vulnerable children.

The trip is the culmination of months of planning and fundraising efforts by the group, who have already raised more than £8000 for the cause.

Fifty of the most underprivileged children from the surrounding area will attend the camp and enjoy a week of respite and fun.

“We would really like to thank everyone who has donated money to us,” said Heather (37).

“It all goes straight to the camp so their help is directly responsible for these kids being able to attend. We’re very grateful for the support.”

Heather first became aware of Casa Harului through her membership of Broughty Ferry Baptist Church, whose congregation have regularly supported the camp over the years.

Included in the fundraising efforts were a Ladies’ Lunch, a sponsored walk and a pub quiz, held at The Fort, in Broughty Ferry.
