Roy on Tannadice radar
Dundee United could add another new face to their squad in time for Monday’s SPL opener at Hamilton after it emerged Sunderland striker Roy O’Donovan is back on their radar (writes Tom Duthie).
The Irishman was set to join up on loan a year ago, but appearances for two other clubs in the early weeks of the season meant a proposed deal had to be scrapped. Earlier this summer, he was linked again and, while nothing materialised then, there is now a chance of the 23-year-old heading north.

Black Cats boss Roy Keane wants to farm him out for the season and views the SPL, and United in particular, as an ideal destination.

The Tangerines were not commenting today, but it is understood the next 24 hours will see the matter settled one way or another.

If O’Donovan is added, he will join a healthy colony of front men at Tannadice, though the man being tipped to be the pick of the bunch — Francisco Sandaza — looks unlikely to start at New Douglas Park. The thigh strain picked up at Plymouth last weekend means he will probably be on the bench.
