| Cllr Ian Borthwick, whose Strathmartine ward covers the Balgowan Avenue and Helmsdale Avenue areas, has written to the housing division following yesterday’s Tele story highlighting the residents’ problem.
Cllr Borthwick has also received inquiries from residents in the areas about how to operate the systems fitted on their roofs.
The panels were put in place by the council as part of a rolling programme of improvements over the past four years and the system should have provided financial benefits to residents who would have the ability to generate their own energy.
But residents are not seeing any benefits, as they have no idea how to operate the system.
In his letter, Mr Borthwick has specifically asked, “whether full operating instructions were given to residents and, also, whether this is being monitored as to the benefits arising from these installations?”
He said today, “I am awaiting a reply to my queries but I hope any uncertainties will be resolved in the near future and there will be no cause for concern from the householders using the system.
“There seems to be a level of confusion among householders and there maybe needs to be a review of the procedures to make sure everybody understands how to use their systems properly.”
The council explained that advisors from the council energy advice team visited tenants at the time of installation to advise them how to use their systems to maximise the benefits.
It is hoped residents will notice a reduction in their fuel bills while also addressing environmental and sustainability concerns in the city. |
