Transporter collapse causes Forfar Road crush

The tipsy transporter.

The A90 Dundee-Forfar road was reduced to one lane northbound today after the back of a transporter carrying Land Rovers collapsed, crushing one of the new luxury cars (writes Jenna Cairney).
The driver was forced to pull into a lay-by, near the traffic lights at Morrisons supermarket, after he saw the frame keeling over at around 8.30am.

Fortunately he stopped the vehicle quickly before the other 4x4 vehicles on the carrier were damaged. A Land Rover Defender was dented in the collapse.

Driver Philip Bowen, who is employed by transport company Spirit said, “I had just come round the corner when I noticed the back of the transporter was leaning over, so I pulled in and saw the frame had collapsed underneath.

“This is not something that happens very often. Because of the weight of Land Rovers the transporters are checked all the time.

Tayside Police assist in closing one lane of the A90 while the cars were moved on to another transporter. A forklift truck was used to lift the Land Rovers off the damaged vehicle.

Mr Bowen continued, “The police are happy no accident has been caused and I noticed it and carefully pulled in, so there were no real problems.

“There is only one vehicle at the back that is damaged and fortunately it is one of the least expensive.”
