| The scores of Dundee families who have been flocking to the seaside over the past few days will be delighted to learn the water quality has been judged “excellent” in the most recent tests at the beach.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency tests the bacteria levels in 20 water samples taken over the course of the official bathing season, which runs from June to September.
At least 16 must be classed as “excellent” for Blue Flag status, which is only awarded to the very best beaches in the world.
Though Broughty had enjoyed a run of excellent results, a dip in water quality on July 10 resulted in it being described as merely “good”.
It is thought unusual weather conditions may have played a part, as samples taken at Carnoustie and Arbroath on the same day also failed to meet the top standard.
However, two samples taken more recently — on July 12 and 14 — showed Broughty beach was again hitting the highest standard for water quality.
As a result, eight of the nine tests carried out so far this season have fallen into the “excellent” category. |
