| Debbie Smith (pictured) has organised a parachute jump on August 17 to help her towards the £4000 target needed to go and teach at a primary in east Africa.
The 18-year-old is half way to the target, which she needs to raise before her gap year adventure from January to May.
The fundraising has been a family effort to help the former Braeview Academy pupil.
“I have raised about £2000 so far from bag packing and a pub crawl, which all started in January when I found out I was going away,” she explained.
“I can’t wait to go and experience working in a primary school. I just want to see for myself how different worlds live. I want to make a difference with my input.”
Her grandfather is helping her organise a sponsored darts match while she keeps busy working at both McDonalds and as an adult instructor with the Army cadet force.
When Debbie returns from Kenya she is planning to study legal services at Dundee University with a view to working in the police.
